THROUGH THE EYES OF ANOTHER

Through the Eyes of Another is a virtual reality training experience designed to help judges and family court professionals better understand the realities of coercive control and domestic abuse. Developed with domestic abuse specialists, survivors and regional Police and Crime Commissioners, the project uses immersive storytelling to provide insight that traditional training materials cannot easily deliver.

CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES

What we did

  • Evidence gathering and consultation
  • Survivor-informed narrative production practice
  • VR film production
  • Stakeholder engagement

Objectives

  • Deliver a polished VR film that uses storytelling, performance and environment design to convey the lived experience of coercive control.
  • Build an evidence‑based resource that strengthens professional understanding of coercive control.

Challenges

  • Translating complex patterns of domestic abuse into a narrative that professionals can recognise and learn from.
  • Working with real testimonies required careful scheduling, trauma‑informed practice and ongoing liaison with support organisations.

IMPACT

By placing professionals inside the lived experience of coercive control, Through the Eyes of Another transforms training into a powerful, first-hand learning experience. The project helps judges and family court practitioners develop a deeper understanding of domestic abuse, strengthening empathy, awareness and informed decision-making across the family justice system.
